About this watch

Introduced in 1979 the 16808 brought many improvements over previous 1680/8 including the updated cal 3035 movement with quick set date , sapphire crystal glass and an increased depth rating to 300m which are all great improvements but for me the most important thing about this reference is what they didn’t change and thankfully the designers at Rolex left the matt dial with stunning gold font and those unmistakable tritium filled “nipple” hour markers well alone .Its for these points that the 16808 is often referred to as a transitional model as it features qualities seen in previous vintage models as well as introducing improvements that we still see in today's modern pieces.

Its not only hard to find an original 16808 as fewer were made than of the 1680/8 but its even harder to find a nice example with its original 92908 solid 18ct gold bracelet which I am pleased to say will fit even my 20cm wrist

This example form 1984 will certainly be among the best available and a perfect birth year watch for someone who is 40 next year

Mechanically the cal 3035 runs as its should and carries our 12 months guarantee.

I make no apologies for my gushing appraisal of this watch as I believe this is simply the most attractive Submariner's ever made and I am sure this stunning example will delight its next owner
