About this watch

This stunning example of the iconic Rolex Submariner nondate ref 5513 was sold to its original owner in January 1984 in the UK as confirmed by the original sales receipt and Rolex papers. The watch remained with the same gentleman for the next 38 years and throughout that time it was used daily and regularly serviced and comes complete with several service documents.

1984 marked the introduction of the gloss black dial complete with white gold hour markers, now termed Bicherini dials, this new dial layout was to become very familiar as its still used today although until 1996 Rolex still used tritium in the hour markers which softens over time rather than remaining the harsh white of the later Luminova dials, one other unique characteristic of the first series of gloss dials is that the varnish can crack over time to produce an appearance of a spiders web when seen in differing light conditions. This piece can appear a perfectly “normal” Bicherini dial in some light then tilted another way reveals the unique spidering, a feature highly prized by Rolex collectors as is the faded "ghost" bezel.

Hopefully our images do this watch justice, and you can see the quality of the 40mm stainless steel case with well-defined lugs and correct bracelet.

Whether you are a seasoned collector or just venturing into the hobby this is a watch that will delight now and continue to develop over the coming years.
