The Speedmaster MK III was introduced to the marketing in the early 1970’s and intended as a bold statement moving away from the more subtle Speedmaster MK II Professional chronograph, which replaced the original and iconic moonwatch (although all three models remained in the range until the late 1970’s and the moonwatch has never left the range).
The first automatic chronograph speedmaster
The MK III was the first Speedmaster Professional to be equipped with an automatic chronograph movement, the calibre 1040, which went on to form the basis of Omegas Chronograph range in various guises right up until the late 1990’s. It is a remarkable piece of engineering and was designed to have the same Professional application durability as the watch itself.
The MK III is an amazing piece of design, the helmet style case was used across other parts of the range like the famous Flightmaster but nowhere more boldly than here. The watch has a real wrist presence and is the perfect combination of stainless steel case whilst retaining the traditional Professional black dial and bezel configuration.
This watch is as close to a new old stock example as you will ever find, it has barely been worn and the movement is in mechanically perfect condition The 40 mm stainless steel case is fitted to a period black sports strap with period Omega buckle
This is an extremely rare opportunity to own a very special and rapidly appreciating Omega Speedmaster.
