Prototype movements often feature unique markings, inscriptions, or variations in design to indicate their experimental nature.

Serial numbers may also differ, as prototypes typically do not follow the same serial numbering system as mass-produced movements. This allows for the identification and tracking of prototype components during testing and development phases
