The manual winding caliber 89 by IWC was in production from 1946 through to the mid 1970’s and was the first movement designed by Albert Pellaton who was later to design the Pellaton winding system for IWC which is still in use today. However, his first movement the cal 89 was to gain fame as the powerhouse used in the famous MK X1 pilots watch ordered by the RAF in 1948, It was the superb build quality and robustness that impressed the RAF and it is those qualities that in a civilian vintage watch give you a piece you can use with confidence giving you the best of both worlds, a unique vintage timepiece with modern reliability.
This excellent gent’s dress watch dates to the early 1960s although looking at it you would never know as it comes in near new old stock condition.
The 35mm stainless steel case is unmarked and the same can be said for the flawless silver dial which is classically finished with baton hands and hour markers.
Today this is a watch that can be worn for any occasion, equally at home with jeans or a suit and comes fitted to a new quality leather strap.
