About this watch

It’s fair to say that any vintage timepiece from the late 1950’s manufactured for only two years will be fairly rare however I think that with the Omega CK 2990 the reason for the rarity makes a great story and the stunning looks of this hard to find White dial variant mark this out as a bit of a sleeper to me .

In 1957 Omega released the Trinity of the Speedmaster ,Seamaster and Railmaster all of which went onto great success for varying reasons ,Enjoying this success the designers at Omega followed quickly the following year with the Ranchero which its plain to see borrowed many of the trinity’s features such as the instantly recognizable broad arrow hands and the Arabic numerals at 3.9 and 12 along with triangular hour markers .

The 35 mm stainless steel case size allowed Omega to make the price point of this piece very attractive whilst maintaining quality and reliability, the hand winding cal 267 movement was already famed for these qualities.

So far so good ! then came the choice of name ,whose decision that was is probably lost but this great ,versatile and affordable watch was named the Ranchero which attributed to its spectacular failure as translated Ranchero in all the Spanish speaking world means “ranch hand “ sadly not a very well regarded career and so very quickly the watch was discontinued .

Sadly, as with many rare pieces there are a great many fakes around so it’s nice to see this example comes with the Omega extract from the archives dating the watch to 1958 and confirming it as a Ranchero not the later Seamaster .This lovely example comes with the correct vintage Omega box as well.

For clarity the original Radium has been removed and made safe by one of the leading experts in this field and I am sure you will agree the result is outstanding.

The watch is fitted to a new vintage style tan leather strap and finished with a stainless steel Omega buckle.
