About this watch

The MKIV variant of the famous Red writing submariner marks the very first time the dial showed the depth rating shown in the now familiar feet first format ,the Mk IV dial also has significant differences to other later dials such as open sixes and the offset horizontal strokes on the F and T, as collectors of desirable sports Rolex pieces know its these details that matter as does condition and with a watch like this it’s all about the dial and this example from 1973 will be hard to beat ,The dial is flawless and the lume a desirable coffee cream which is even on all markers and among the nicest I have seen.

The case is in equally fine condition and the inner case back correctly stamped 1680 and 1V/72 which is topped by the original fat font bezel insert. The watch comes fitted to the later improved solid stainless steel 93150 oyster bracelet with 580 end links, no doubt changed at a service at some point in the 1990’s as it dates to c1996

The watch runs on the correct Cal 1575 automatic movement correctly badged 1570 which is fully guaranteed for 12 months.

The red writing sub is regarded by many as one of the most collectible sports Rolex and examples as nice as this are getting very hard to find and yet this fine example is possibly one of the best and represents excellent investment potential in a thoroughly wearable piece giving you the best of both worlds.
