Possibly one of the most easily recognizable iconic sports watches of the 1960’s
The Heuer Autavia was introduced by the companies new CEO Jack Heuer in 1962 and was to become the mainstay for the brand right through until 1985.This was the first Heuer wristwatch with a rotating bezel which came in different formats this model features the Tachymeter bezel and just as with the popular Omega Speedmaster both watches were originally designed with motor racing in mind although the Omega became more famous for use in another mode of transport entirely !
Although the Autavia was in production for almost 25 years the 2nd generation or Compressor case model was only produced for a very short period between 1968 and 1969 making this the scarcer of the range.
This particular watch is just about as good as it gets. The dial is completely original and the original Lume has aged well whilst the 38 mm stainless steel case has retained its crisp edges and the snap on case back still shows all its correct engravings.
Don’t get me wrong this is not a watch that has spent 40 years in a safe this is a great honest vintage watch from possibly the greatest era of motor racing and mechanical watches when both these things went hand in hand.
The movement is the manual winding Valjoux 7733 a well renowned workhorse movement of the period
This great watch is fitted to a new old stock corfam strap to set it off.
