Any fan of vintage Heuer watches will instantly recognize the 42 mm stainless steel case and pusher layout of this watch as the Heuer Autavia 1163 ,the case is actually engraved as such between the lugs this is because Bulova bought these complete watches from Heuer and added the Bulova name to the dial and by todays standards very lazily erased the name Heuer from the inner case back and added Bulova ref 7605 above it .Likewise the bridge on the automatic movement ,although signed Bulova 14EHAD is actually a Heuer cal 12 movement .
To sum up what we have is a watch manufactured entirely by Heuer in the early 1970’s but badged and retailed by Bulova and whilst this practice wasn’t uncommon in the seventies and inter company collaboration is still commonplace today the results are normally more subtly disguised !
What makes these pieces particularly special is that Heuer never released this dial variant themselves and probably missed a trick as the dial has a striking military look to it which is incredibly popular, It even features the popular MH bezel rather than the more common tachy.
This example is in very nice condition and runs exactly as it should and offers someone the chance to have a very wearable vintage chronograph that is very seldom seen.
