About this watch

The 16610 first appeared in the Rolex catalogue in 1989 which is the date this watch was manufactured making it one of the earliest available.

Whereas the 16610 introduced improvements to the Submariner such as improved cal 3135 movement it’s also saw the continued use of the gloss dial coupled with white gold hour markers and tritium luminous material introduced a short while earlier, what’s beautiful to see on this example is that the tritium has aged to the very desirable coffee cream colour matched by the original pip in the bezel, and nice as this is it the fact that the dial has lost most of its gloss finish and is showing a unique matt appearance and for me the combination of fading to matt dial coupled with white gold markers filled with cream lume is an absolute winner and gives the new owner a perfectly modern and wearable Rolex Submariner but with a unique finish and vintage charm.

It's well documented by Rolex collectors that whilst the gloss finish on some early gloss dials developed the crazing or spider pattern due to a fault in the lacquer the later versions actually age very differently and many are showing the gloss fading to a Matt finish which coupled with the white gold surrounds to the hour markers gives a very special look that will continue to develop over the coming years .

The bracelet is the original 93150 with 501B end links, fully linked with original clasp and diver's extension.

The automatic cal 3135 movement has been recently serviced and carries our full 12-month guarantee.
