The back story of how the Cosmanaute model came to be is well reported but to sum up briefly, Astronaut Scott Carpenter asked Breitling to modify his own Navitimer to use a 24-hour dial, reportedly he wore this watch on his flight aboard a mercury space flight circling the earth in 1962.Other famous fans of the Cosmanaute include Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Miles Davis and even Jerry Seinfeld.
This example from the mid 1960’s has the desirable dial configuration which still includes the wording Breitling, Genève, Cosmanaute and above the lower sub dial Navitimer, this original dial was phased out in 1967.
This is no safe queen, its lived a life as it was intended and bears a few scars, has lume missing and the sub dials at 9 and 6 have some paint missing however the 40mm stainless steel case is crisp, rotating bezel not over polished and still has the original crown and the manual winding Venus 178 movement has been recently serviced, all functions work and its covered by our 12 month mechanical warranty.
This is among the last chance to purchase a genuine vintage chronograph with both racing and space pedigree and still affordable.
