If one watchmaker stands above them all in its association with motor sport it has to Heuer particularly through the magic years of the 1960’s and 70’s and this watch has long been associated with the very best ,It was of course the great Mario Andretti the winner of the F1 championship in 1978 as well as many successes in other forms of racing ,who lends his name to the watch he chose to wear during much of his career the Heuer Autavia ref 3646 .
This second-generation piece from the mid 1960’s is in superb original condition and the tritium lume has aged to a wonderful warm honey colour.
The watch runs on the famous Valjoux 92 movement which keeps great time, and all chronograph functions perform exactly as they should.
Not to detract from the aesthetics of the piece the watch is fitted to a simple black leather vintage style strap.
This is a pure vintage timepiece from an era of incredible innovation in so many areas and for me when great pieces like this are available I struggle to see the appeal of the latest bright shiny new thing but like the watch may be its an age thing
