The original Ingenieur was released in the 1950’s and was aimed at the engineers and scientists of the time using its protective case to protect the watch from strong magnetic fields much like the Rolex Millgaus, I wonder what the watchmakers of IWC then would make of the technical marvel of this version carrying that famous Ingenieur name into the future.
Features on the cal 79420 movement are chronograph functions with hours minutes and second recording, split second hand for intermediate timing, day and date display, and small hacking second. This is a watch for engineers of a special type and its no wonder with IWC being a main sponsor for the Mercedes F1 team and multiple world champion Lewis Hamilton where timing is everything and every second counts.
The watch marks a first for IWC in a few areas not least the 45mm titanium case and it must be said this is a watch with serious wrist presence, but it also wears incredibly well, the case is light and with it being fitted to a comfortable rubber strap you don’t have the heft that a steel bracelet may add to other big watches.
Personally, I would probably never use half the features it has but then my car has buttons I have no idea what they do although strangely for a vintage watch fan I would happily wear this, its big and bold but not flash, its function and design at a very high level.
The watch is superb condition and benefits from having a new strap fitted recently
