About this watch

This must be one of the coolest watches we have listed on the site to date, it is a perfect combination of functional tool watch and true style statement, it really is quintessentially of its country of manufacture, France.

LIP watches have a history that dates to 1867 when Emmanuel Lipman and his sons founded a clock workshop under the name Comptoir Lipman. In 1893 the company became the Lipman brothers clock factory. It wasn't until 1896 that Lip became their brand name after the successful launch of the Lip Stopwatch. The brand is world famous and throughout their heyday of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s they made some of the most cutting-edge watches in the world in terms of both design and technology.

This watch from circa 1969 uses on of the most special movements every made by LIP, the calibre- R184/ Datolip 148   it is a mechanical movement but runs on a battery, which winds the main spring, to say it’s cool is an understatement. This also the world’s first electronic movement to have a date feature

All of the above mixed with the timeless lines of a skin divers watch and the wonderful multi-coloured dial makes it the perfect combination.

The watch is new old stock and with the exception of a couple of light storage marks it is perfect. The large 37mm case (excluding the crown) wears really well and really gives you all the wearability (including 200M water resistance) but with the style of 60’s and 70’s France, this is the Citroen SM of the watch world.

The multicolored racing dial looks amazing and really help’s it stand out from the pack, you will catch the eye of your friends in the gym, the pub or out doing the supermarket shop. This is one of those timeless classics which will not only continue to appreciate in value but at the same time will get cooler with age, a truly revolutionary watch when new which has now become a timeless classic.

Another testimony to Lips quality is that they worked with and supplied both Blancpain and Brietling
