Although the Rolex 5500 was produced with many different dial configurations this is certainly among the most seldom seen and most striking ,the raised Arabic numerals give the watch a real military feel which is exactly what the original Air king was aimed at ,released in 1945 and aimed at the pilots of the Royal Air Force the air king quickly earnt a reputation as a reliable work horse and that reputation remains today it is in fact one of the longest running models in the Rolex catalogue.
The ivory dial is decorated with raised Arabic numerals and outer minute track and finished with fine alpha hands and sweeping second hand. Please note the dial has a small visible mark at 2, o’clock but I personally don’t think it detracts from the great appearance of this rare piece.
The calibre 1520 automatic movement has just been serviced, keeps excellent time and is covered by our 12 months guarantee.
The 34mm stainless steel case is a very wearable size and this is a watch I can guarantee you won’t see anyone else wearing and it’s hard to believe that this piece dates to the mid 1960’s circa 1965.
