I am delighted to offer you this stunning early Rolex oyster in original condition and fully signed on the dial crown case back and movement ,what makes this an exceptional find is that the crown is signed Oyster patent and the case back inside is signed Oyster watch Co not Rolex as with the later versions . Although Rolex’s Oyster case with signature screw-down crown received the credit as the world’s first waterproof wristwatch case, it was the originally designed by Paul Perregaux and Georges Peret and in fact Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf bought the patent from them in 1925
The Rolex Oyster was officially launched in 1926 and made famous when Mercedes Gleitze swam the Chanel wearing one in 1927 even then the Rolex marketing machine was working well and this event featured heavily in the companies marketing.
To think that this piece dates to around 1936 which makes it over 80 years old is absolutely remarkable
The 15 jewel manual winding movement is signed Rolex super balance patented .
The dial is crisp and clean and the Arabic numerals are a delight as are the arrow hands and the solid stainless steel Oyster case wears well at 30 mm excluding the big crown .
