So here I am offering you a 1960’s Rolex from an undoubtedly confusing reference the 6298 is often seen like this example with an Explorer style 3/6/9 dial layout and these are often mistakenly referred to as pre explorer pieces , incorrectly as the explorer was launched prior to this ref in 1953 ,although the similarities between the two models are easy to spot apart from the dial layout you also have a 36mm stainless steel case, These confusions are more common than people think as from the early 1950’s to 1960’s Rolex had many different model ranges running side by side with cross over design elements .Obviously the giant Rolex corporation we know today is far more structured and precise, whether that’s a good thing or not is for you to decide.
As for this piece I believe that the dial has been redone at some point in the past but to an acceptable level.
The Cal 775 automatic movement runs well and keeps time as it should.
If you are looking for a vintage Rolex with interesting features suitable for any occasion and also great value for money when compared to what a 1960’s Explorer would cost then this offers all of that
