The 16610 is fast becoming one of the best ways to achieve neo vintage cool but whilst still being sensibly priced and this example from 1989 offers you just that and a perfectly wearable daily watch.
For me this example is a stand out piece not only is the case in superb condition but the dial has taken on superb colouring over time which has to be seen to fully appreciate.
On a small number of the production run in the late 1980’s the normal gloss finish seen on the 16610’s was defective and as seen on this example the gloss finish disappears and you are left with a matt dial which when coupled with the tritium lume material turning a wonderful coffee cream gives you a truly unique Submariner and like many sports Rolex watches its the subtle differences that make a watch more desirable and in this case I think the next owner will have the best of both worlds ,a watch that’s modern enough to be a great daily wearer and yet has that unmistakable vintage charm.
