The last run of matte dials that Rolex ran in the non-date 5513 Submariners were known as the Maxi Dials. The Mk1 Maxi is the one that started it all and is the most desirable of the five variations. The tall, elongated coronet and the fact that the word Submariner appears below the depth rating are the key identifiers of the Mk1.
This piece was originally purchased in Selfridges in London in 1980 and has had the same owner for the last 40 years, great to see is the original purchase receipt as well as Rolex papers and box ,please the inner watch holder is missing from the box
The watch is in fantastic condition - the case is shows very little sign of being polished in the past and the dial is flawless with the oversized hour plots and hands having achieved a wonderful creamy colour over time.
The Rolex oyster bracelet is a reference 78360 and in equally good condition.
Its been said that every serious collector should have a 5513 in his or her collection and this excellent example is a worthy addition to any collection.
