About this watch

Heuer’s long association with motor sport  is well documented and the glory years of the 1960’s and 70’s are blessed with many memorable characters and Mario Andretti is ranked among the best. Andretti was famously presented with two Heuer 3646 chronographs in the 1960’s and chose to wear them during much of his career, as a result the ref 3646 and the name Andretti became forever linked.

The example I am delighted to present today is the very seldom seen 2nd execution featuring sword hands and screw back case and dates from c 1968, it is  in stunning condition, this is a watch that perfectly represents sporting chronographs of the era

The reverse panda dial is distinguished by the alternating hash marks on the minute markers and the t above the Swiss markings indicating the presence of tritium lume rather than the dangerous Radium used on the earlier generation pieces. The watch also has the original dauphine hands and the lume on both the dial and hands has aged to a wonderful warm coffee

The 39mm stainless steel case is held by long bevelled lugs which are crisp and sharp, although the watch has clearly been worn it remains in a superb unpolished condition.

The original 12-hour bezel shows some slight markings but is in very good condition for the period.

The 3646 is the only 2 register chronograph made by Heuer running on r the famous Valjoux 92 manual wind movement which runs and performs as it should and is covered by our 12 months guarantee.

I think its hard to find a 1960’s sports chronograph with better wrist presence and dare I say offering better value for money than this piece and I can see the value of this piece increasing dramatically in coming years.
