Omega De Ville Chronograph Ref 145.017

This Omega De Ville is one of the rarest of the Omega chronographs, produced for a very short period of time between 1968 and 1971, this example dates from 1970.

The 36mm (excluding crown) straight lug case is solid stainless steel and retains its original all polished finish, the case back is in excellent original condition and overall, the watch shows very little signs of use.

The watch is reference 145.017 and features a rare twin register calibre 860 movement, almost identical to the calibre 861 that went in the 1969 moon watch but with two register chronograph not three. Its also worth noting that the cal 860 was produced in much smaller numbers.

This watch was intended as a driver, sportsman’s chronograph and was designed as such, robust and utilitarian whilst retaining all the quality and style you would expect of any period Omega.

The dial of this example is the very hard to find striking metallic grey variant with red seconds markers ,The watch is offered in original and unrestored condition, the case is crisp and as sharp as you could hope for and the dial all original although its obviously seen some tar build up on the seconds register and I  have no idea what happened to the minutes markers on the other register but I prefer to leave a piece like this as I found it ,personally I like the real vintage look ,one other unique feature on this item is the case back engraving which I have to confess I havent seen previously so cant shed any more light but I assume that the history of the SSIH (Société Suisse pour Industrie Horlogere SA) is well known and as such it’s nice that this piece can be thought of as another survivor of a time that’s now past ,
