About this watch

The Omega F300 is one of Omega most important watches of the 1970’s, it was the first electronic chronometer watch produced in the world and a remarkable leap forward in watch making technology. Not to be confused with a quartz watch this watch is a mechanical watch but instead of having a balance wheel has a tuning fork mechanism which is powered by a battery.

What makes the watches special is their ‘tuning fork’ movement, known as the Omegas mosaba movement a mechanical movement which ran on a battery and was controlled by tuning forks which vibrated at a frequency of 300Hz

The movement was made under licence by Bulova, the chronograph version then adapted with basically and extra 'layer' for the chronograph operation. The movement in this watch was known as the Mosaba meaning 'montre sans balancier' translates for 'watch with no balance'

The F300 was Omegas flagship watch of the day and as such has all of the technology and build quality, the build quality was reflected in the price in a watch that cost, when new £144.50 compared to the Moonwatch at £124.50. It truly is a work of art and as well made if not better than virtually all other watches of the time. When new this watch was virtually double the price of the now famous Ploprof and considerably more expensive than the equivalent Rolex submariner.

The 41 mm stainless steel case and bracelet are in the same remarkable condition as the rest of this great time piece.
