Paul Raynard ‘Waterproof’ chronograph
This Paul Raynard chronograph dates from the mid/ late 1960’s and is a real design icon of function tool watch but fashionable dress watch. Unlike so many chronograph watches of the period it is all stainless steel and waterproof. Paul Raynard was a sub brand of Baylor who where owned by the US Jeweler Zales and who bought many unbranded pieces from Heuer during the same period. The company began manufacturing watches using the Heuer stock under their own brands including Paul Raynard and Baylor and have since become very collectible in their own right.
These watches were extremely expensive at the time and of the highest quality and this example is amongst the best there is. It is showing virtually no wear and the dial is flawless, the two colour dial on champagne background is the real stand out item on the watch and the 36 mm case size makes it extremely wearable both casually or formally.
This is a true classic of design and looks as good today as it did new, testament to this is that much of Heuers range now emulates these original designs and their ‘carrera re edition’ range could easily be mistaken for these original watches.
We love this watch as it has such a beautiful and timeless style yet is build to an amazing quality and looks as good today and as fashionable today as it did when it was new. It has a great character and is a real taking point in any conversation, especially with such an interesting and colorful heritage of the brand.
